60s Vietnam War Vintage Tailor-Made USMC Mitchell Pattern Trousers - 30x26

As early as 1959, US Marines stationed in Okinawa, Japan, had these custom-tailored uniforms made with repurposed Mitchell pattern shelter halves. These custom pieces show up in a variety of cuts, shapes, and sizes, some jungle cut, others more akin to the utility uniform of the same era. 

These trousers are made in a P43 cut with pleated cargo pockets on either thigh, a snap front closure and a zip fly. They are entirely reversible, with all features displayed on both sides. Any period clothing item made in this fabric is incredibly rare, but this is the first time I have encountered a pair of trousers with this particular design.

Worn by Marine advisors and Recon Marines, there are very few known photos of these actually being used, but a few from 3rd Platoon, C Company, 3rd Recon Battalion in 1961 are shown. Also shown is a photo of one Robert Veasley titled "The Day I left Japan" from 1959.

Excellent condition with light signs of real wear - All buttons, fittings and fixtures are present and working. The pockets, at some point, were repositioned further up the leg, which can be seen by shadowing underneath. There is a seam repair on the crotch, which may need some minor attention, but it is not particularly noticeable while the trousers are worn.
